Rotary drilling pipes supplied by us are used at the construction site Tunnel XFEL (www.xfel.eu) in Schenefeld near Hamburg, for back anchoring drilling purposes. They are applied in particular on the company grounds Schenefeld – the later research campus. European XFEL is the European X-ray laser plant currently under construction. Up to 30,000 ultra-short and highly intensive X-ray flashes per second will be generated there for basic scientific research purposes. The project includes 5777 m of tunnel in a depth of 6-38 m – of these, a 2.1 km long tunnel for the electron accelerator and 5 fan-shaped connecting tunnels for the X-ray flash generation. Apart from Germany, 12 other European countries as well as China participate in the construction works. The planned construction cost is approximately 1 billion Euro. The construction groups Bilfinger & Berger (www.bilfingerberger.de) and Hochtief (www.hochtief.de) have formed the ARGE Tunnel XFEL in order to execute the construction of this project.
