We always have tricones in stock for pilot drilling in rocky ground. We offer the best value for your money with products from renowned manufacturers. Tricones are always classified in accordance with the IADC code. Find more information below:
Soft rock (e.g., slate, soft limestone, sandstone)
• IADC range: e.g., 417 / 437 / 517
• Features: Longer carbide bits with a wider spacing ensure maximal mechanical removal in softer but compact formations.
Medium-hard rock (e.g., limestone, dolomite, harder sandstone)
• IADC range: e.g. 537 / 617
• Features: Shorter, more robustly shaped bits (often conical or ballistic in shape) for greater fracture resistance as rock hardness increases.
Hard rock (e.g., granite, gneiss, quartzite, basalt)
• IADC range: e.g., 637 / 737 / 837
• Features: Short, protruding, hemispherical carbide bits tightly arranged. Designed for maximum compressive strength against the hardest, most abrasive rock.
Drag Bits
• The step chisel or drag bit is often the right choice, particular in situations with soft to medium-hard rock. These chisels offer excellent value for money under suitable geological conditions. We stock all standard sizes with API threads so that we can respond flexibly to your requirements. Special sizes are also available on request.
